Evidence-Based Training Methods: A Guide for Training Professionals ReviewI work for a company that creates industrial workforce training in the form of 3D-animated multimedia. I've found this to be a great book that dispels the myths of learning theory (such as preferred learning styles) and gives concrete, real-world study results on such topics as:The usefulness of graphics and animation to promote learning
The effectiveness of onscreen text and how it relates to voice-over narration
How the placement of onscreen text affects learning
The importance of not mentally overloading your audience
The effectiveness of different teaching styles in communicating different kinds of information
These were my main areas of interest, because they directly relate to my job. I came away from reading this book with changed opinions about learning, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone involved in training/teaching.
I know I sound like a shill, but I'm just very enthusiastic about what the author has done with this book. I don't know of a better book out there that's as up-to-date on these subjects as this one is.Evidence-Based Training Methods: A Guide for Training Professionals OverviewThanks to a growing body of research evidence, we've learned a great deal in the last 20 years about which methods really work when training people. Yet many trainers still use time-honored methods and assume they work -- despite recent evidence to the contrary. Whether you're a classroom instructor, training manager, or designer of e-learning, your training will be more effective when you base your methods on evidence. With this book as your guide, you can thoroughly incorporate evidence and learning psychology into your program design, development, and delivery decisions. You'll save your organization time and money wasted on training fads that don't work, and invest resources more productively in proven training methods.
