Opportunities in Chemistry Careers, Revised Edition Review"Opportunities in Chemistry Careers" is a bit outdated. However, if you are a Middle School student who might be interested in a career that involves Chemistry, this might be a good place to start getting information about career paths.
First, the career that you start when you are done with school may be different than what you visualize now. Second, the career in which you will find yourself in twenty or thirty years may be different than either of those first two possibilities. In high school, I thought I would get into a practical job in chemistry. After undergraduate school I found myself in a research oriented laboratory job and took many graduate courses. After twenty-five more years, I had a PhD and an MBA, and was terminated from my job. Next, I got a management job in a research pharmaceutical analysis lab.
Actually, I am not sure there is any such thing as a "typical" career in Chemistry. The closest to such a career would be to become a professor of chemistry. However, one must go through all of one's schooling in chemistry without becoming involved with industry, in order to do that.
The variety of the careers that are available to anyone with a minor or a major in chemistry is mind-boggling.
While this book is good enough for a start, I recommend reading at least two other books on careers in chemistry.
