The Journey of an Incorrigible Alcoholic: The Paths I Chose and the Ones I Didn't: Addiction, Depression, Suicide, Grief ReviewThe book, The Journey of an Incorrigible Alcoholic by Earl D. Erickson is a true life story of the author through addiction to alcohol, marijuana and other drugs leaving him miserable. It also reflects on the lifestyles of his older siblings and his friends. Erickson writes this book to encourage those enslaved to addiction.
Erickson was introduced to alcohol at a young age, "When I was three years old, in 1955, I awoke very early one morning, dragged a kitchen chair across the floor to the refrigerator, and I drank my first swallow. Many were to follow". Erickson was a careless spender, one who could not make justifiable financial decisions. However, on the positive side, Earl tried to retain his job despite his heavy drinking behaviour, though he later resigned and found himself working for one company to another with minimum-waged salaries.
Through this book, Erickson tries to analyze the dangers that one is likely to encounter by engaging in alcoholism. This book gives its readers a clear picture of how life can become miserable to the extent that one wishes to die, "I wanted to die, but I didn't want to do it myself. I just wished it and dreamed of it every day." But, nevertheless, he fights the addiction, gets married, and settles down. This is a book that shows how people find consolation in alcohol from the frustration of their social life.
This book starts off with intensity. We find Earl's older brother, Donald, has committed suicide at his apartment. Donald was a frustrated man, and he had a blurred vision of the future. This will set the reader in motion, experiencing the anxiety of the events as they unfold. Earl's fight with addiction takes quite a toll as he sinks deeper into drug abuse. The book will keep you guessing about the next event to happen as Earl's life is unpredictable. The element of suspense is ever present. The book treats its readers to a good climax; hard to believe from past events.
Erickson is a grateful recuperating alcoholic addict. He has a heart for writing inspirational stories that bring joy and comfort. He hopes his stories may help his readers to identify some of the past struggles they may have encountered and how they triumphed over them. He owns and manages his website at: www.SerenityLighthouse.com.
This book reveals the life of Earl Erickson through alcoholism, frustration to the extent of suicide, and of his success. This book will be a good read for anyone struggling with life, addiction, in the process of recovery, or supporting someone who is.The Journey of an Incorrigible Alcoholic: The Paths I Chose and the Ones I Didn't: Addiction, Depression, Suicide, Grief Overview
EARL ERICKSON IS NO STRANGER TO ADDICTION, DEPRESSION, SUICIDE, AND GRIEF. He's had eleven drunk driving convictions. He tried to commit suicide twice. He nearly drank himself to death after his wife, Bobbie, died from brain cancer. Drinking and getting drunk was the only way he knew how to stifle his feelings and mask the pain.

In this memoir, Erickson narrates the often painful story of his life- from his normal childhood upbringing to his out-of-control adult life to his sobriety. He tells of the tragedies that shaped his life: finding his brother's lifeless body after he committed suicide and mourning the untimely death of another brother from liver cirrhosis. He recalls a string of broken relationships and bouts with serious depression.

But at the age of fifty, Erickson received a powerful message from a higher power while on a solo camping trip in 2003, and he's been sober since. The Journey of an Incorrigible Alcoholic: The Paths I Chose and the Ones I Didn't tells one man's story of recovery and hope.
