Teen's Guide To College And Career Planning: Your High School Roadmap for College & Career Success (Teen's Guide to College and Career Planning) ReviewThis is a great book. What I like most is that there are (non-overwhelming) sections my son can read on his own. The organization is quite easy to follow and very comprehensive. Part I focuses on "You're going to be a freshman". This is a good place to start but not obvious to all authors who write books on preparing for college. Some of these books might cause anxiety attacks because they are so focused on every move you must make from day 1 to get into college. This book actually tries to prepare kids (and parents) with what to expect when they get to High School. There are messages throughout the book written specifically for the students and some written just for parents. There are "advice" boxes throughout written by students, admissions officers and guidance counselors. I ordered 7 books on preparing for college and this one ranks in the top 2 for me! Writing sample from Chapter 1 (You're Going to Be a Freshman): "You have to speak up for yourself. In middle school, your parents probably helped you if you got into a tough situation....They were the ones making the phone call or visiting the teacher. In high school, there will be times when you will have to deal with situations on your own, such as speaking with a teacher about homework...you have to develop the ability to get advice from your parents, figure out how to solve the problem, and then take action."Teen's Guide To College And Career Planning: Your High School Roadmap for College & Career Success (Teen's Guide to College and Career Planning) OverviewGET A JUMP!is intended for use by students at any stage of middle and high school, but it has the most relevance for high school sophomores and juniors who are starting to get serious about the decisions they will need to make after graduation. Whether they're planning to head to a two- or four-year college, to a technical school, to an apprenticeship, to the military, or directly into the workforce--or are still undecided--here's where they'll find information on the various options available and which ones best suits their skills, needs, and wants.
