The Hermit's Handbook ReviewJack Barry has given us that rarest of books, an exhilarating quiet novel, organic as the pond at its center, translucent as a replenishing rain. The first time I read it and felt changed by it, I was feeling isolated though surrounded by housemates. The second time, I am living alone for the first time in my life--not in a treehouse, like the hermit Stuart Tarry, but with many of the same questions in need of--well, not *answers*, exactly; pathways toward peaceful, human days.
