Unlocking the Power of Certification: How to Develop Effective Certification Programs ReviewFor anyone not already experienced in the certification business, this book can prove quite useful. It is primarily directed at firms considering implementing internal certification programs. This book is NOT for candidates seeking certrification, neither would it be very useful for firms whose main line of business is certification. The second half of the book consists of PowerPoint slides and checklists that rehash material already presented in the first half of the book. One seventh of the book's page volume consists of a verbatim reprint of a law concerning testing which is available in the public domain. The author's experience in the field is quite rich and she could have written a much more useful book and it's a shame she didn't. I suspect that her motivation for writing this book the way she did is her extensive background in adult education. I would have preferred something more like a college text than something written in the style of a workbook. I want to make it very clear, though, that this is a very good book for firms seeking to implement internal certification programs and I do strongly recommend that they buy this book.Unlocking the Power of Certification: How to Develop Effective Certification Programs OverviewNeed to know how to develop a certification program? CompTIA A+ Certification All-in-One Exam Guide, Sixth Edition ReviewI spent over a week agonizing over which book to purchase to prepare for the A+ exam. I ended up choosing this because it seemed to me to be the most material for the money and because Meyers, the author, has a reputation for quality in the industry. After working through the book, I am fully satisfied, and passed the exam on the first try. This guide is extremely comprehensive, and laid out in a very logical and easy-to-use way. Meyers' writing style is very easy to read and engaging. Even dry subjects are quite readable. The included materials are also quite good, but I should mention a few caveats. The book advertises 8 practice exams, but that means two for each of the four tests. Because any one person will only take two tests (Essentials and one elective), there really are only four practice tests (however, there is so much overlap, I found taking all the tests to be helpful). Also, each practice test is only 50 questions, but the real test is 100, so each is only half a test. On the other hand, the practice tests are very accurate and the interface is just like what you'll face on test day. Also, if you purchase your exam vouchers from Meyers' website, you will not only save $30 on each test, but also get an additional two practice tests (100 questions) for each exam. Overall, I definitely recommend this book over any other you might be considering, and I plan to purchase the accompanying Network+ book to study for that test.CompTIA A+ Certification All-in-One Exam Guide, Sixth Edition Overview

first you have to buy it, then you have to call cybex to activate your copy, that's a long distance call that's going to your phone bill, there's nobody there to pick up the phone so you get an answering machine, they tell you to send an email to cybexsuppor@ whatever.com and then they ask you to fax a copy of the receipt, that's another long distance call and so on...

CCENT: Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician Study Guide: ICND1 (Exam 640-822) (Exam 640-822 With CD) ReviewI have used Todd Lammle's books for several certification exams and I can attest to this book as another notch in that process. I passed my CCENT exam today with a 925 and I could not have done it without this book.
The other book that I used was Ciscos CCENT/CCNA ICND1 book written by Wendell Odem. This book and the free CD that comes with it closely resemble what the exam entails.
With that said, why buy Todd Lammle's book? Easy. Todd explains the Cisco concepts, theory, in understandable terms that you walk away with knowledge and not scratching you head saying, huh?
Now that I have taken a Cisco exam I know what to look for. I have both Todd Lammle's CCNA book and the Cisco CCENT\CCNA ICND2 for the second part of the certification exam.
Transcender was a waste of money in preparing for this exam.
