Lost Souls: Burning Sky ReviewI like the ghosts in the story. The ghosts are called lost souls. The main character is Nathan. The story starts with his 13th birthday. He is the only person that can see or talk with ghosts in the home frequency after his 13th birthday. I like the story because Nathan has the power to communicate with lost souls and to travel through the frequencies. Each frequency is like a different world. When he looks through frequencies, he can see objects that are buried underground or in a wall. He has a little help from his cousin to solve the mystery of who murdered John Montoya, a police officer.
The book even comes with a board game. It is the same game that Nathan plays in the story.Lost Souls: Burning Sky Overview

Boys Are Dogs ReviewBoys Are Dogs was another fun, light read. It was definitely targeted for a younger audience, but I still enjoyed it. Annabelle was a relatable narrator and her troubles brought back a lot of my own sixth grade memories. I could definitely understand what Annabelle meant about the boys! Sixth grade boys are about as far from mature as you can get. Although this plot line can be a little overdone, Margolis added her own cute twist to it. I loved how Annabelle dealt with the boys in her own unique way- by using her puppy training manual. Use a stern voice and hold eye contact? Check. Be the alpha dog? Check. Never back down? Check. Annabelle was a great narrator and I enjoyed reading the story from her point of view. I loved Pepper, her little puppy, and he definitely added a lot to the book. I have my own puppy right now and I could relate to a lot of the things she was dealing with with Pepper. All in all this was a fun book and I'm looking forward to reading the sequel. I would recommend Boys Are Dogs when you are looking for a quick, light read with well meaning characters and an original plot line.
In addition to dealing with the boys, Annabelle was also always worried about what people would think of her. I felt bad for her when her best friend Rachel's older brother was so nasty to her, but I'm glad she stood up for herself. The book pretty much focused all on Annabelle and I wished there was a little more background on some of the characters, so I'm hoping to hear more about them in Girls Acting Catty. I think the cover really suited the novel and the puppy actually looked a lot like Pepper! I'm definitely planning on passing this on to a girl I know going into sixth grade. It's a perfect read for her age group and will definitely help her prepare for the boys she'll encounter(:

Larry Tyler and the Planet Buksdahuda ReviewAs a teacher, no matter how well this book is written, there is no way I'd read it aloud to my class or recommend it to a child.
This author has clearly not done his research. If he'd looked at a map, he might have noticed that the Yukon Territory is in Canada - not Alaska (see p. 7). Further, Barrow is quite a distance to the northwest of the Yukon.
Please get it right, people already think Alaska is somewhere off the coast of California because of the way most maps are published.
And a blonde-haired, blue-eyed protagonist in a Inupiaq Eskimo village? Hmmm. The Curse of the Cheese Pyramid (Geronimo Stilton, No. 2) ReviewI thought this was a GREAT book! This my favorite Geronimo Stilton book so far! My favorite character (besides Geronimo Stilton) was Professor Spitfur. Geronimo's grandfather sends him to Egypt to do an interview. The most exciting part of the book is that Geronimo gets to go to Egypt. The description of the airplane ride is very funny. The scariest part is when the Professor gets knocked out and Geronimo is left in the dark!
I like the way the book is printed with the words being different colors and styles. It has lots of pictures and maps too. It makes it easier for me to read it.
