The Second-Half Adventure: Don't Just Retire-Use Your Time, Skills, and Resources to Change the World ReviewI loved this book! I've been really searching for what I'm to do with my time and energy since I am back at home and this book gave me some excellent ideas! Many of you know that I've been in the nursing home for the past two years and have recently moved back out into the world, after some life changing events. I've been struggling to not just fill my time, but to fill my time with something of substance.
This book was an eye opener as to how many opportunities there are for those who are entering the 'second-half' of our lives. While the book is definitely written from a Christian perspective, there are any number of activities that would appeal to anyone looking for a way to go out and change the world even in a small way. I've already gone to The Finishers Project and filled out the questionair and I encourage all of you to do the same. We all have skills and passions that could be put to use in ways we can't imagine!
Please consider this book as a gift to everyone you know that is approaching that 'second-half' of their life...and even those who have been in it for a time. It would also make a wonderful addition to the library of every Pastor, both for himself and to aid in counseling others.
This is a great resource for planning your 'second-half adventure'!
The Second-Half Adventure: Don't Just Retire-Use Your Time, Skills, and Resources to Change the World Overview
A social worker from New England . . . a Texas airline pilot . . . a homemaker from California . . . a lawyer who has lived everywhere . . . a quilter in Oregon. What do they have in common? All are on the adventure of their lives.

Like many others among the 77 million baby boomers, these men and women don't want to retire from contributing when they retire from their careers. So they are using their time, skills, and resources to make a difference. Written in conjunction with Finishers Project, an umbrella organization that encompasses more than 100 mission organizations, this book will help baby boomers discover a second-half adventure that fits them and counts for eternity.

InSideOut Coaching: How Sports Can Transform Lives ReviewThe journey from a transactional coach to a transformational coach can be long and have many turns, the key is to be on the path. Joe Ehrmann has been a personal mentor to thousands over the past decade through his speeches and coaching. I am thankful to have had several great interactions with him in that span and have always wanted him to write a book. Now not only has he written a book, he has given us all a view into his soul and we can only become more inspired to live up to the goal of being a transformational mentor to any and all people we meet. Be you a boss, an employee, a player, or a coach, being others focused is a way of life. When you take up this cause, I imagine Joe saying, "Welcome to the Team!".
InSideOut Coaching: How Sports Can Transform Lives OverviewJoe Ehrmann, the coach profiled in the national bestseller Season of Life, explains how coaches at every level, from Little League to high school to NCAA Division I and even the professional leagues, can use sports to transform lives. Coaches have a tremendous platform, says Joe Ehrmann, a former Syracuse University All-American and NFL star. Perhaps second only to parents, coaches can impact young people as no one else can. But most coaches fail to do the teaching, mentoring, even life-saving intervention that their platform provides. Too many are transactional coaches; they focus solely on winning and meeting their personal needs. They see sports as a simple exchange: the athlete performs to a coach's demands and in return gets something, usually praise or a position in the starting lineup. Some coaches, however, use their platform. They teach the Xs and Os, but also teach the Ys of life. They help young people grow into responsible adults; they leave a lasting legacy. These are the transformational coaches. These coaches change lives, and they also change society by helping to develop healthy men and women. Sports have become a secular religion, according to Ehrmann. Tens of millions of children play sports, and millions of coaches have the potential to influence the lives of these children—and through them to touch their parents' lives as well. Children can be diminished and discouraged by their sports experiences, or they can be strengthened, uplifted, even in some cases redeemed. Sports can be a life-changing experience if coaches understand why they are coaching and redefine their measurement of success. InSideOut Coaching explains how to become a trans-formational coach. Coaches first have to "go inside" and articulate their reasons for coaching. Only those who have taken the InSideOut journey can become transformational. Joe Ehrmann provides examples of coaches in his life who took this journey and taught him how to find something bigger than himself in sports. He describes his own InSideOut experience, starting with the death of his beloved brother, which helped him understand how sports could transcend the play-ing field. He gives coaches the information and the tools they need to become transformational. Joe Ehrmann has taken his message about the extraordinary power of sports all over the country. It has been warmly endorsed by NFL head coaches, athletic directors at major universities, high school head coaches, even business groups and community organizations. Now any parent-coach or school or community coach can read Ehrmann's message and learn how to make sports a life-changing experience.
