Perhaps the "Publish or perish" university environment forces people to publish something--anything--or perhaps the authoress uses this to train her HR classes. Certainly it is so general and so non-substantive as to be useless to a genuine 3rd party recruiter/executive search consultant. Maybe personnel people will benefit. Nice title, but false promise.
Genuine recruiters (I'm one, and have been for 20 years) who are interested in achieving REAL "High-Performance Recruiting" from a highly-credentialed author (not an HR person) should take a look at the 2008 edition of Steven Finkel's 380-page hardbound book "Breakthrough! Great Jobs for Communications Majors ReviewHonestly if you made it to your upper division classes in communication and find the first half of this book to be of much help then you are in real trouble when you get out into the real world. This book was written with the first year college student in mind. As such me being a 3rd year student reading this book I found myself gaining no new knowledge out of the first half or so of the book. The second half which talks about graduate school choice and career paths in communication is some what useful but for this information you are better off buying one of the two following books. Graduate study for the 21 century, or Getting what you came for The smart student's guide to earning a Master's or PhD. These two books will serve you infinitely more than Great Jobs for Communication majors.
Also keep in mind when you read this book that it was written with the early 2002-2004 economic situation in mind, that means before the 9/11 crisis happened, before the financial downfall and before the arts, humanities, and media studies began having unemployment rates similar to those without a college degree. It may not help you out if you are looking for something practical to help you decide what you are going to do if you are close to graduation with a Communication degree. If you just started college and you decided on being a communication major this book may provide some insight and helpful tips on multiple subjects related to this wonderful field of study.Great Jobs for Communications Majors Overview

As I mentioned in the title of this review, throw out environmental engineering if you have an environmental studies degree. Environmental engineering, like civil engineering, is a demanding 4-5 year program of study. It ain't gonna happen.
The environmental sciences and technology tracks might be useful, but then your degree should be focusing on environmental science, and not environmental studies.
I sense a lot of students being interested in environmental education, but the book talks a lot about middle and high school positions. A teaching certification or degree is important here. I'd add environment-related communication careers (writing, public relations, journalism) here as well.
That brings us to environmental policy, planning, and management. This twenty page section could have been greatly expanded, because I see a lot of opportunity here for environmental studies majors. There are career opportunities in both government and non-governmental organizations here, as well as a track for environmental studies majors to get a graduate degree in law, public administration, or even business administration.
Best hint for applying for job? More and more employers are asking you to post your resume on-line. Don't be fancy. If it looks scrambled when the prospective employer opens it up, your chances are scrambled as well (p. 28).
