Exam #4 and Exam #5 are very thorough and should not be taken lightly. Very good review of my 200+ hour course. Purchasing is well worth overlooking the typos. I hope this helps all of those looking for a new career.

It was an eye opener into the PR field and the various ways that companies and individuals reach out to the public for support, sympathy, empathy, and of course, their money.PR- A Persuasive Industry: Spin, Public Relations and the Shaping of the Modern Media OverviewLike it or loathe it, PR has become a key ingredient in our lives, but surprisingly little serious thought is given to what PR is and what its practitioners do. Glancing, usually disparaging references to PR abound, and journalists and othersfeel free to make overarching comments based on scant evidence, but PR remains under-examined and hard to study. The big PR firms remain shadowy, and by tradition PR people working within big organizations do notseek the limelight. If PR is an industry, it is a fragmented and diffuse one, scattered across all parts of the economy and society in thousands of small cells. In both the UK and the US, for example, the largest consultancies employ fewer than 1% of those who work in PR. Similarly even the largest companies have PR departments thatrarely have more than a hundred staff and usually many fewer. Great Jobs for Communications Majors ReviewHonestly if you made it to your upper division classes in communication and find the first half of this book to be of much help then you are in real trouble when you get out into the real world. This book was written with the first year college student in mind. As such me being a 3rd year student reading this book I found myself gaining no new knowledge out of the first half or so of the book. The second half which talks about graduate school choice and career paths in communication is some what useful but for this information you are better off buying one of the two following books. Graduate study for the 21 century, or Getting what you came for The smart student's guide to earning a Master's or PhD. These two books will serve you infinitely more than Great Jobs for Communication majors.
Also keep in mind when you read this book that it was written with the early 2002-2004 economic situation in mind, that means before the 9/11 crisis happened, before the financial downfall and before the arts, humanities, and media studies began having unemployment rates similar to those without a college degree. It may not help you out if you are looking for something practical to help you decide what you are going to do if you are close to graduation with a Communication degree. If you just started college and you decided on being a communication major this book may provide some insight and helpful tips on multiple subjects related to this wonderful field of study.Great Jobs for Communications Majors Overview

Careers for Writers & Others Who Have a Way with Words ReviewAnyone afflicted with the desire to be a writer would benefit from a quick read of this comprehensive analysis of career realities for writers. Robert Bly's first chapter, "The Writing Business," provides a balanced analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of a writing career: You probably won`t get rich, but you probably will be fairly satisfied with your work and your working conditions.
Other chapters explore book publishing, magazine writing, newspapers, advertising, public relations, corporate writing, technical writing, television and film, and freelancing. The chapter on technical writing is thorough and accurate, particularly the quote from Kurt Vonnegut, Jr., that "Newspaper reporters and technical writers are trained to reveal almost nothing about themselves in their writing. This makes them freaks in the world of writers, since almost all of the other ink-stained wretches in that world reveal a lot about themselves to the reader."
Although I applaud Bly's broad treatment of career possibilities, I am bothered by a nagging suspicion that the entire book is dated. In spite of its publication date of 1996, it cites examples no later than 1984. The references to printed books in each chapter are also outdated, with no citations from the 90s. This makes Bly's lists, such as "Fifty Prominent Book Publishers," very suspect.
Therefore, I'd recommend this book for historical research, followed by checking out recent sources to see a realistic, current picture of your career possibilities.Careers for Writers & Others Who Have a Way with Words Overview
